Daniel "Boobie" Gibson hit 7-of-9 shots, 5-of-5 3-pointers and 12-of-15 free throws for a career high of 31 points as the Cavaliers easily handled the Pistons in Game 6 to advance to the NBA Finals against the San Antonio Spurs. Gibson was amazing in this game, adding six rebounds and two assists to his incredible point total. The Pistons worked hard at shutting LeBron down tonight, but they didn't account for an explosion from Gibson, leading to an easy win for the Cavs. Everyone used to laugh at his nickname, but it's about to become a household name. Prepare to see the headline "Boobie Trapped" in the Detroit papers tomorrow paper. Daniel Gibson returns to Quicken Loans Arena tonight, no longer the role player he's been for the Cleveland Cavaliers for most of his rookie season. The difference, as the Cavs enter Game 3 of the best-of-seven NBA Finals down 2-0 against the San Antonio Spurs, is that Gibson's role has become a lot bigger. "Some people might think it's over, but in this locker room, we don't think it's over at all," says the 6-2 point guard affectionately known as Boobie. "You have to win four games to win the series. It's 2-0, so we still have a chance." Gibson's confidence is the same type of attitude he's showing on the court in his first postseason. The second-round draft pick from Texas was, in effect, no longer a rookie once the 82-game regular season ended. He has performed in the playoffs like a seasoned veteran. "I might attribute that to me not knowing anything about being here," says Gibson, who came off the bench to score 15 points in Game 2 after contributing a team-high 16 points (7-for-9 from the field) and four assists in the opener. | |
